WANTING: WAGE 4

I want this… I want that… I don’t know what I want…

Wanting represents not having all that is needed, expected or desired. Repeatedly, many people do not know what they want. Married couples expect their partners to know what the other desires. Parents are expected to know all the wants of their children. Friends are expected to know the needs of each other. But, if you don’t know what you want, how do you expect others to know?

If you ask adults, what they want, many will say a great job, a healthy relationship and a good home. If you ask the youth, their answers may be updated electronic devices, plenty of money and fancy cars. All of these items may provide a temporary fix and produce a momentary joy, but, these results will not be long lasting. Great jobs, become not so great, relationships end, homes are expensive, updated devices becomes obsolete and money runs out. There will always be something bigger and better. What happens then?

If you don’t know what you want, don’t phone a friend. Pray to God. Ask Him what you need and what is good for you. He will grant the yearnings of the heart.

Delight yourself in the Lord, And He will give you the desires and petitions of your heart. Psalm 37:4Amplified Bible (AMP)

Bear in mind, our wants must align with God’s wants. God does not grant selfish, frivolous, harmful or dangerous prayers. For example, God, give me a million dollars so I can destroy my ex-husband’s business. Or, God, grant me the ability to rob this liquor store.

You ask [God for something] and do not receive it, because you ask with wrong motives [out of selfishness or with an unrighteous agenda], so that [when you get what you want] you may spend it on your [hedonistic] desires. James 4:3Amplified Bible (AMP)

Another example, God, grant me just enough for me and my family. You may ask what is wrong with that prayer. One, God is not a God of just enough; He is a God of abundance. He wants to bless you exceedingly. Second, God wants to bless you so that you can be a blessing to other people.

… So will I save you, and ye shall be a blessing: fear not, but let your hands be strong. Zechariah 8:13King James Version (KJV)

Our ways of thinking are established from family, friends and other influences. We measure our ways of thinking according to the human scale and not on the ways of the Almighty Powerful God. God’s ways are more elevated than our thoughts could ever be.

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. Isaiah 55:8King James Version (KJV).

For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:9King James Version (KJV)

Ask yourself. Do you want short term wants that will be here today and gone tomorrow? Or, long term desires, that continues to grow and prosper. If you desire the latter, go to ask God and inquire what He wants for your life.  Ask Him, what is His way to get your dreams achieved.
