THE ARMED FORCES: PART 1

Armed ForcesThe Armed Forces is a government- sponsored defense force to fight forces and organizations. This line of military service uses offense and defense methods. Offense is the attack mode. While the defense uses approach of protecting and defending.

The Armed Forces takes the offense and defense process and divides them into three levels:

  1. Strategy
  2. Operational Act
  3. Tactics

Strategy is the higher level course to achieve one or more goals under conditions; the planning stage. Operational act is the cognitive, the mental /intellectual, approach by commanders and other leaders supported by their skill, knowledge, and experience. Tactics is the technique using the weapons to defeat an enemy.

For simplification purpose, the three levels of the armed forces process are plans (strategy), think and have wise counsel (operational act), and the use of weapons (tactics).

Do you make elaborate plans for life dreams; going on a European vacation, getting a college degree, relocating to another city, but, never do them? Or, do you think about great ideas, talking with people, tapping into their expertise, and never make plans to achieve them? Or, are you a doer? Diving into situations, headfirst, without a plan or have not taken a cognitive approach to the endeavor? All three of these levels should be used in the sequence stated. If any one of the steps are omitted the ultimate goal will fail.

Let’s start with strategy. Strategy is a careful method to achieve a specific goal, often over a period of time. Daily, you strategize on all types of things. How do you get to work? You plan what type of vehicle; car or bus. Then, there is a specific route to be taken. You allow time to arrive at work, at an appointed hour. And, of course, there are other factors to be incorporated into that plan to accomplish that goal.

The types of plan I have in mind are not generally simple or a daily task. They are much bigger. What are your goals, dreams or aspirations for your life? Depending on your current situation, it may vary. Parents may say getting their children through high school or college. If you are in a bad marriage, to get free from your spouse. A low salary paid employee may desire a more optimal paying job.

The first step in the planning phase is to acquire a specific goal. The sad reality, many people lack the desire to have any dreams, aspirations, or goals of their own. It is noble and Godly to think of other people. To think about your children and their school. Or, your spouse and their promotion. What happens once your children and your spouse has achieved their goals?

Oftentimes, people melt into the illusion that diving into long hours at work, after the children have left the house is their true goal. Or, overextending themselves in church business to fill a deficient in their life, because the loss of a spouse. Again, I want to iterate those are noble and honorable things. You must ask yourself, is this really your ultimate goal.

Have you set endeavors for your life, or have you allowed other people to make their ambitions, your ambitions?  Or, is it easier to always help others achieve their goals, because setting goals for yourself takes time, effort; and the strength to overcome obstacles and combat fear?

Listed below are some common inclinations:

  • Going back to school to receive a license, certificate or degree
  • Having a career and not a job
  • Purchasing a house
  • Take a real vacation, possibly to an exotic location
  • Living a healthier lifestyle
  • Being a better person.

All goals will require you, God and prayer. These are achievable feats that you can strategize on. God has given us the power to achieve all things.

According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: 2 Peter 1:3King James Version (KJV)

In this post, I delineated in the first state of the armed force process, strategy (planning). In the next two posts I will exemplify on the levels of operational act and tactics.

What are your hopes, dreams and aspirations? Write them down and make them happen.
