Building Material That’s Not Needed: Renovate Your Mind Part 3

Now, that we have reviewed the two main categories of the voices influencing Emotions-Feelingyour thoughts; and God and the devil. I will like to bring to attention a subcategory. This category can go under any one of the main classification. The subcategory is you and your emotions.

If you’re are emotionally based and feelings led. Everything will be about you. I need, I need; You don’t know what they did: I’m going to tell them off: I’m going to get them back; I deserve; It’s not fair; It’s too hard; I can’t; why do things always happen to me; why do I need to apologize; no one understand what I am going through; I will never forgive them; I will never speak to them again. If any, all or some of these statements rolls continuously from your lips. You think, IT’S ABOUT YOU. Apologies, I need to tell you, it’s not about you. When you are renovating your mind, it’s about God, replacing your thoughts for His thoughts.

Everyone experiences emotions. Under certain circumstances, your feelings may be warranted and appropriate. It’s when you’re constantly charged with these feelings and allowing them to orchestra negative words, acts and behaviors. In those cases, your emotions are controlling you instead of you controlling your emotions. That’s wrong. If you quickly responded, I can’t do that; that’s just how I am; I can’t control my feelings, you may be correct. For you, alone, it may be difficult or impossible. With the grace of God, you can do all things. That is, if you are willing and truly ready to renew your mind.

… With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible. Matthew 19:26 King James Version (KJV)

Ephesians 4:22-32 (KJV) gives detailed instructions on how to renew your mind. Each verse are steps in renovating your mind. It requires you to ask, lean and depend on God to accomplish these steps. The more you study and meditate on the Word. It becomes easier. Depending on the person, some of these interventions may be more difficult than others. The scriptures to support these steps can be found in the Lord’s Lane.

The first step is the willingness stage. You are to strip, shred, peel, and discard your old way of thinking. Previous ways of thinking are adapted from the world, society, government, relatives and your own way of thinking, reflecting selfishness, pride desires, overindulgence and lust.

This is the step to obtain a new and improved mental and spiritual state of perception. Renovating the mind is not a one-time event. It is a constant process throughout your entire life.

Take your old character and replace it with God’s character of being morally good with qualities relating to or coming from God.

Now, the specifics come into play. Stop lying. Many will immediately be offended and say, I’m not a liar. Or I don’t lie. Well, that’s not all together true. We have become so accustomed to little “white” lies we are not aware of how many are spoken. A lie is a lie no matter what color it is. For example:

  • Calling your job and saying you are sick when you want to go to a ball game.
  • Fabricating your resume, by adding untrue items to make it sound more professional.
  • Telling your children about Santa Claus or the Easter bunny. It sounds innocent, but these people or animals do not exist.
  • You are late for work because you stopped and got breakfast, but, you tell your superiors there was heavy traffic due to an accident.
  • Spreading invalidated information about your new neighbor, because you what to be in the know.

Ager is one of the passionate emotions. There are times anger is appropriate. But it’s the intensity, the length and in some cases, the person, you are expressing this emotion that can be damaging. Anger can be activated due to being upset or annoyed. Quick tempered, short-tempered and hot-tempered are the angers easily stimulated. These angers need to be researched by you and God and determine why you are so easily angered. Anger flares because:

  • It has become a coping mechanism to cover the true feeling of fear, embarrassment or pain.
  • Fearful of losing something or not knowing how to do something.
  • You must be in control when the ability is taken away anger is replaced.
  • You have been previously mistreated or abused, you spit out anger to protect yourself in the future.
  • You must always be right.
  • You must always have the last word.
  • You can’t take criticism.
  • You dislike when people disagree with you.
  • Your parent, guardian, or relative was an angry person. You feel like this is a great trait. Or you devolved the habit.

The Word tells us not to allow the sun to set on our anger. Ask God to help you in this area. He will guide you of ways to diffuse and release your anger appropriately. If you go to bed with this feeling, guess what, chances are, the next morning that emotion is renewed, ready for another day to keep you captured in the anger mode.

Don’t give the devil room for gloom. Any time any negative emotion occurs, the devil is present and ready to keep that feeling brewing. He whispers and suggests more adverse thoughts to keep you in that mood. Fight back with The Word, prayer or reciting scriptures.

  • You had an argument with your spouse. If you are attempting to calm down, the devil will remind you about all the bad things about your spouse, unfavorable things that may have occurred weeks, months or years ago. He will tell you that you should not take this and your spouse has no right. You will agree, thinking you are not to blame. If you listen to the devil and feed on his suggestions, your anger stays aflame. You will say or do things that you may be truly be sorry for in the future.

Don’t steal. Most people may think they do not steal. Steal: to take something that does not belong to you in a way that is wrong. Or, to take something without permission. Stealing is not just a mere act of going into a store and taking something without paying. It can be an everyday act you commit without thinking.

  • Riding the clock is an act when you are not working, but you are have not clocked or signed out. This may occur generally at the close of the day. An hour before the time to get off. You stop working and began to take care or your personal business, or surf the net or converse with a co-worker. Riding the clock is stealing time.
  • Taking office supplies, home to supply your personal office.
  • Taking great quantities of sugar packets, napkins, condiments, straws and other “free” items, to stock your car or home because you don’t want to buy these items.
  • Lying on your tax return to get more money.

Now it’s time to deal with your mouth and the words coming from your mouth.

  • No more foul language or profanity.
  • Stop talking about others and spreading gossip, rumors and lies.
  • Cease to judge people according to your standards, and not God’s ways.
  • No more degrading remarks and cruel jokes.
  • Block saying negative things all of the time.
  • Being harshly critical.

Be a positive role model Let your speech be positive, encouraging, uplifting, truthful and kind. Be complimentary to others, so those are around you can learn from you.

When you are accepting God into your heart, you are sealed (marked, branded and secured) as one of God’s children. His Spirit comes to live inside you. When you say, act or behave in a manner contrary to the Spirit in your heart, you grieve (sadden or offend) the Spirit. You can actually feel this sorrow or heaviness of heart. When you did something and you know it was wrong, many may mistake it as guilt, but the Holy Spirit may be grieved.

This step is the final somewhat catch all intervention for all other evil speaking and bad behaviors. Put away all rage, animosity, slander, contention, clamor, abusive, ill will, spite and any wrong words, sayings and behaviors.

Learn to forgive. This may be one the hardest things for people to accomplish. Everyone has a story to tell about how they were mistreated in some type of shape, form or fashion. And many cases, some are worse than others. This is not to be taken lightly, trust me it isn’t. Forgiveness is not solely about another person, it’s for you; to release the anger, hurt, pain from your heart. It’s a cathartic process, purging your from all the strong emotions that is hindering your growth and the ability to move on. This is an area where you and God may near to have some one on one time with forgiveness.

Last but certainly, not least. Be kind and considerate to others. Make things about God and others. And God will make things all about you.

You will have strong and passionate emotions. This is not a process to never have them. It’s a process to control them replace your negative emotions with the positive gifts God has given.

Avenues of Awareness

Reflection Road

After reading this post, you may ask why I should renew my mind, what’s the point?

  • Do you want to continuously be ignorant and blind to God’s promise for you?
  • Are you tired of destruction and stress?
  • Do you want joy and peace?
  • Do you want to prove what is good and acceptable and the perfect will of God?
  • Do you want to discover your calling—your purpose in life.
  • Do you want to learn God, our Father is the wealthiest Father in the universe and as His the children and heirs we will receive a great inheritance. Not only in the afterlife, but in your everyday life.

If that’s not enough, I don’t know what will be.

Devil’s Drive

The devil loves for you to be out of control with your feelings. He can slide right in without any effort causing those feelings to seethe for days, weeks and sometimes years. Remember the devil comes to kill, steal and destroy. He wants to destroy you in any way he can. He will whisper in your thoughts you are justified in losing control of your feelings. He will make it all about you. He will work with pride and selfishness to get his point across. Don’t listen to him. Take control of your feelings. When you control your feeling you control the devil and ploys.

World’s Way

The world and its ways do try to assist with uncontrolled feelings and emotions. There are anger management classes (for the extreme angry person), therapy groups and of course all types of medications available. All I want to say (and there are exceptions to the rule) is before running to man, special group sessions and medication, turn to God, prayer, and the Word. One day therapy with God can be more effective, long lasting and cheaper than one year of therapy with a paid professional. Trust God.

Personal Pathway

In all of my church going and Bible class attendance, I was not instructed to renew my mind. I did not know, by the grace of God, I could control my feelings and emotions. I did not know the devil whispered negativity in my mind. I said what I wanted to say and if my feeling were not tamed, oh well. I never went out to vindictively hurt people. But looking back, I did hurt people by my unbridled tongue. By constantly renewing my mind, replacing my thoughts with God’s thoughts, this has been one of the greatest gifts for me. That’s why it is important for me to tell everyone to renovate your mind. It will bring, perspective, peace and prosperity.

Lord’s Lane

Ephesians 4:22-32King James Version (KJV)

22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;

23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;

24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.

26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:

27 Neither give place to the devil.

28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.

29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:

32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

Truth 1Who assassinated President John F. Kennedy? Where is Jimmy Hoffa? Who really killed Biggie Smalls? Is Elvis Presley still alive? Will Rihanna and Chris Brown get back together, stay together or completely move on? There are many unanswered questions and urban myths floating around, drawing intrigue to many people.

When it comes to high profile cases, you want the truth, you demand the truth, and you deserve the truth. The public needs to know. You search and investigate any and all materials that will bring authenticity to the unknown facts. Many researches dedicate years or decades searching for veracity.

However, when it comes to the profile in your life, why isn’t the truth sought? Is it because you don’t care? Or, do you think you know?

The truth is, you have been fed lies. Like all high profile cases, the media, society, government and many families or other sources will tell you what they want you to know. Tidbits of the truth are heavily laced with deception. You feed on the lies, eat them up and move on, ignorant, blind and deceived all while feeling a sense of knowing the truth. You have been brainwashed. Why?

When we think of brainwashed, it is connected with some type of capture or kidnapping. According to Merriam Webster Dictionary: brainwash is a forcible indoctrination to induce some peopl to give up basic political, social or religious beliefs and attitudes and to accept the contrasting regimented ideas.

What about the truth in your everyday life? What do you know about evil and good? The Bible clearly defines the word of truth, who is the truth, what we must do and our outcome. See Lord’s Lane below to identify the scriptures to enforce the statements below.

  • In simple terms, the Word of God is the truth.
  • Our Almighty Father is the God of truth.
  • Knowing the truth will set us free.
  • And we should live by every Word that comes out of the mouth of God.

Who is the liar? Who has brainwashed and deceived many? And, what was the outcome?

And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. Revelation 12:9 King James Version (KJV)

The devil is the ultimate liar and the father of it. The devil takes evil and calls it good. He says it’s freedom, but ends in bondage. He takes the gifts of God, love, humility, peace, joy, grace and righteousness and flips them.

  • Love is replaced by animosity, and selfishness.
  • Humility is trumped out by pride.
  • Peace is out and stress and messes come in.
  • Depression and sorrow overtake joy.
  • God’s grace, unmerited favor, the devils insists it’s about self-works, what you must do to get what you want.
  • Righteousness, is substituted for lusts and evil desires.
  • The attraction to God, the devil replaces with the distraction of being too busy.  Electronic devices keep you plugged into the world and unplugged to God.

Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. John 8:44 King James Version (KJV)

The truth of the matter. God is the God of truth, His Word is truth. We live by His Word. And the Truth will set us free. The devil is the father of lies. And he deceives the whole world. Get out of bondage. Free your mind. Know the truth.

  • Do you feel like you are deceived? Do you care? If so, what are you truly doing about it?
  • Look at the world today and look at the world 5 years ago. Do you see the dramatic change?

Devil’s Drive

It is written in scripture, the devil has deceived the whole world. The devil convinced much of the world that he does not even exist, that the only presence is in Halloween costumes and for scary movies and bedtime stories. The devil is alive and causing havoc all over the world. He is called by many names and he is the prince of this world. Please believe.

Now judgment is upon this world [the sentence is being passed]. Now the ruler of this world (Satan) will be cast out. John 12:31 Amplified Bible (AMP)

World’s Way

The newspaper and many media modes claim to bring you the truth. Many of the media outlets are boosting ratings and afflicting fear to the consumer. Afflicting fear helps boost sales in items to protect your fears; home security, car alarms, weapons and various insurance policies. Fear helps to increase ratings, put dollars in the pocket of board members, and any other selected employees. Start with the real truth; God and His Word.

Personal Pathway

The greatest truth for me is learning about the devil. Going to catholic grammar and high school, attending Bible class from the age of 11, to my knowledge, no one explained to me that the devil exists. And, he was the prince of this world. And, that he works through people and situations to keep people distressed. His motto is to steal and destroys lives. Looking at the world today he is doing his job. I believe if I knew then what I know now, my life may have been different. That’s why I know it’s my calling to alert people of the devil and his demented devices.

Lord’s Lane

Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. John 17:17King James Version (KJV)

He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he. Deuteronomy 32:4 King James Version (KJV)

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. John 8:32 King James Version (KJV)

But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Matthew 4:4 King James Version (KJV)

The Poison of The “I” Disease

PoisonWhen you drink the poison you are plagued with the disease. The poison is pride and the disease is the “I” disease. I deserve.., I need…, I am…, I did this…, I have…, I went…

With the “I” disease one symptom is the name dropper. Gucci, Prada, Michael Kors, Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana drools from your lips.

Product prices protrudes from your mouth. I paid $10,000 for this watch… I paid $1000 for my bracelet… it was 65, 000 for my car… this gold chain is $500. Many purchases or dealings have led to the price paid.

I haves haunts the heart. I have a handsome husband with a great job, I have a housekeeper, I have a house in the Hamptons, I have two 401Ks and over 500,000 saved for retirement.

The above examples are very extreme cases. And for the record, there is nothing wrong with owning nice things, being happy for being blessed and achieving accomplishments. However, if you constantly remind people of your name brand designers, how much you spent or what you will spend on specific items, you may be plagued with pride and have the “I” disease. Let me tell you, many have drank the poison and have the sickness, but unaware they have it. Strangely, they can quickly identify those negative qualities in others.

Pride is an inordinate self-esteem, an unreasonable conceit of one’s own superiority in talents, beauty, wealth, accomplishments, rank or elevation in office, which manifests itself in lofty airs, distance, reserve, and often in contempt of others. Pride is a chief characteristic of the devil. And he uses this tool to stricken the unsuspecting individuals.

Why are some people plagued with this disease and others are not? Selected people have:

  • Low self-esteem, they must publicize their value.
  • Struggled through life, now they have the opportunity to do and have things, so they announce to the world they have made it.
  • Snobbish tendencies, purposely looking down on the less fortunate.
  • Fraudulent behaviors, making people think they have money. Generally, this group is one paycheck from being homeless.
  • The attitude of “I am all of that”. They want people to see their glamour, glitter and gold.
  • Made life all about them.

If you have been clueless to the “I” disease now is the time to take the antidote, humility. Zip your lips. Stop verbally announcing what you have and the amount you paid for the items. Allow others to compliment you. Learn to take the focus off you and place it on others. Compliment people often. Voice their value. Announce their achievements.

Watch out. If you continue to have a lifted up persona, thinking you are better than others, waving your wealth, flashing your fame or voicing your value you may be headed for a ray of reality, a humbled heart, a path of poverty or a ship of shame. God does not like a proud look or behavior. Those who do not take heed will be halted.

Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. Proverbs 16:18 King James Version (KJV)

  • Do you find yourself dropping designer names and prices to others? If so, do you feel like it’s harmless?
  • Has someone told you about this habit? Or, do you associate with people who does the same thing so it’s a battle of who can name the most designer items owned and who paid the highest amount for a specific item?
  • Try to remember a time when you couldn’t afford pricey price tags and someone constantly reminded you or their exorbitant lifestyle. How did you feel?

Devil’s Drive

The “I” disease came from the devil, Lucifer. He was cast from heaven.

12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Isaiah 14:13-14King James Version (KJV)

World’s Way

It was a time when it was taught to know who you were inside. Have a good heart, then work on the outside. Today’s world is different. The world encourages to forget about the inside, be all you can be on the outside. If you can’t be important look, act and talk important. People are drunk with this attitude going out and spending money on expensive items to feel important.

There is nothing wrong with allocating funds on name brand items. They are of good quality, they last longer and are fashionable. But if you purchase these pieces for bragging rights. You may have a problem.

Personal Pathway

I loved living in New York. God granted me the opportunity to enjoy many intriguing and impressive experiences. My “I” disease started when I moved away. I constantly reminded people of the things I did in New York. I did this…, I did that…, I lived here…, I went here…, I went there… Watching any movie or television program filmed in New York. I could identify something that I did in those surrounding areas. Not realizing, I had drank the poison and had the disease, in my opinion, I was voicing my ventures. One day when I was going on about a New York based program, I looked back at my not-so-captured audience, they had glazed eyes as to say here we go again. I zipped my lips and kept my thoughts to myself. And, to this day I try to be mindful of the “I” disease in all areas of my life.

  • 16 These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
  • 17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
  • 18 A heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
  • 19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.) Proverbs 6:16-19 King James Version (KJV)

Rough and Ready

ready“If You Build It They Will Come” That was a line taken from the movie Field of Dreams starring Kevin Costner. The line reflected on the character, Ray, a struggling farmer and if he builds a baseball diamond in his corn fields, the Chicago White Sox would come. Obediently, he builds the structure. And, the game begins. Now, the poverty stricken farmer charges admission and prosperity follows.

This is the same type of response that came to me when I asked God about some issues. The example I presented to God: if a person has a good job, a decent relationship/marriage, an updated car and money in the bank for unexpected expenses, vacations, adult toys and lavish gifts for themselves and others, why would they want to come to know You, Lord? It appears to them and others that they are doing just fine by their own self works and efforts. I continued to pray on my journey: why would anyone want to read my newsletter or my website, when it refers to changing their lives and their present way of thinking? What’s the point? God responded to me in my heart, “When they are ready they will read”.

The terminology rough and ready refers to being willing, ready and able to do what needs to be done. When it’s “their” time, the people who turn to God, will not have fancy skills or mucho money in the bank, but they will do what it takes to acknowledge God in their everyday life. Their discovery is, they need God.

The things people think they can control are materialistic things like: homes, cars or play toys. A good job can take care of these matters. But, the loss of a job can put a screeching halt to those so-called controllable items. Illnesses or death of loved ones are not controlled by man. Emptiness, loneliness and a lack of purpose are not controlled but sometimes are replaced with drugs, alcohol and other man-made solutions to fill the void. We think we are in control of our lives because negative forces (the devil and his devises) surrounds you, whispering to you, that you are in control. When in actuality, God is pulling at your heart to come to Him because He is in control. Making the correct choices in life may be difficult.

The point God placed on my heart to convey to you: when you are ready to take the time to study the Word, have the desire to have a close relationship with God, and to do His Will rather than your own will, when the discovery is made, that you need God in all areas of your life, God will be there. And my newsletter and website will be available to assist in your journey. Become rough and ready.

  • Is God a distant acquaintance to you because everything is going great in your life and you really don’t see the point of an intimate relationship with him?
  • It’s easy to give yourself 98% credit and God 2% credit for your achieved goals. In other words, you may mouth a quick thanks to God, but the rest of the time, you are basking in your glory. Do you do that?

Devil’s Drive

The devil encourages self-works laced with pride and arrogance, when the goal is completed, you give thanks to yourself and your abilities. Your glory is short lived.

Grace is undeserved, unmerited favor a free gift from God. Wisdom is God’s knowledge to know things. With grace and wisdom you can do all things in God. So thanks go to God. His glory is eternal, in this world and the next.

World’s Way

The world thrives on self-effort notions and giving yourself the praise for your success. Books and videos are created for this purpose. There is nothing wrong with learning how to be successful and working hard to get things in life. But if God is not somewhere in the foundation or thanks is given to a video or book there lies a problem. Regardless, if you acknowledge it or not the true essence of great achievements is God.

Getting into the LPN program and completing the nursing classes came with limited challenges. Instead of acknowledging God for the accomplishment, I patted myself on the back and contributed my success to my hard work and my intelligence. I thought overconfidently, that the RN program would be an extension of my previous achievement. It was not. Getting into the RN program, took 2 attempts. Even though I scored 95% on the entrance exam. There were candidates receiving 98% and 99%. Once I was accepted into the curriculum, the hospital clinicals were overwhelming, the classes were difficult and the reading assignments were endless. Plus, I was a single mother raising 3 children. My life was out of control. I felt as though I was running 100 miles an hour and not getting anywhere. I needed help. I needed God. I prayed. I asked for forgiveness for my arrogance and pride thinking I achieved success totally on my own. I asked for wisdom to get me through the nursing program. And requested guidance in raising my children while I attended nursing classes. God blessed me with all requests. I learned to trust God, not myself.

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. Proverbs 3:5 King James Version (KJV)
