Who Are You?

Who are youI don’t know who I am. You‘re a daughter, son, brother or sister. You’re a student. You’re a friend. You‘re many things to many people. But, do you truly know who you are?

This is an identity crisis among many tweens. The struggle is not being a child, but not quite a legal age adult. During these formative years you’re searching for an identity. Without realizing, you’re seeking a role mode. A person worth idealizing; who can be mimicked.

Many chooses the rich and fame: actors, athletics or musicians because of the things they have. Money, clothes, glamor and success tops the list. These idols look happy because they’re rich. But, you don’t know these people personally. You’re exposed only to what the media produces. Their job is to set up images to be romanticized. Behind the scenes, many of the glorified icons are unhappy, with high divorce rates, sicknesses, stresses and a bunch of messes.

Others look up to their parents who may be doctors, lawyers, teachers or nurses. Or, other mentors they desire to be like. They go down trails to be like them.

At your age, you may have hopes, dreams and aspirations that may not be the path you should travel. Through the grace of God I would like to introduce to you who you are and the road to find out where you should go.

If you are reading this, or have been referred to this post. God is already in your life or God is exposing Himself to you to be in His life. I am going to tell you who you are. You are a child of God. He is your Almighty Father. And because of that, You are the righteousness of God.

That is an everlasting identity you must realize and hold fast t. Confessing who you are in God, will propel you though life. This identity will assist you to fight off your adversaries. Because you can go to God and ask what is your destiny. He will instruct and guide you. But, you must accept this God given gift, righteousness.

For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. 2 Corinthians 5:21

When you truly know who you are, no one can steal that from you. Confess your identity to yourself, out loud and declare it to others. This is you weapon to stop Satan from attempting to rob you of your identity. The confirmation will help you stay rooted in your individuality and know God is your Father. As a loving father, He will teach you though His Word; give instructions for your life, and provide you with the skills to complete any tasks ordained by Him.

Avenues of Aspirations

Reflection Road

Daily, declare who you are every day. Get up in the morning saying. I am the Righteousness in God. Throughout the day repeat your identity, until you believe it, until you have agreed with God that you accept His free gift.

Devil’s Drive

Not only daily, but multiple times throughout day, the devil will attempt to strip you of your status. If you are established in righteousness, he will succeed. Know who you are and fight Him with God’s Righteousness.

World’s Way

The world wants to keep you confused as who you are. So, it can dictate to you what it wants you to be. Always remember the devil is the prince of this world. His motto is to kill, steal and destroy. He hates you; the world hates you; because you believe in God.

If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. John 15:19King James Version (KJV)

Personal Pathway

I am not a perfectionist because I realize no one is perfect except the Son of God. But, I don’t like to make mistakes. At work, I made a mistake on a document. This document was sent to another establishment. The outside facility did not raise a ruckus, but a department at my company did. I was reprimanded mildly for this error. I felt bad. I did not want my company to reflect poorly to outsides agencies. After correcting my mistake and offering apologies the incident, everything should have been squashed. With my superiors, the matter was forgiven and forgotten. But, the devil reminded me of this slipup. He whispered all types of negative things in my head. How could you make such a mistake? Your company did not forgive you. They’re waiting for the right time to fire you. You do not have the capabilities to do your job. Why don’t you just quit. I must admit I listened for a while. I prayed about the matter. My Father spoke softly to me and asked. Who are you? I replied, I am the righteousness of God. Then act like it. I did. I confessed my status to Satan, I am the righteousness of God. Saying the words, energy and strength returned to me. Guess what? The unpleasant thoughts ceased.

Lord’s Lane

My righteousness I hold fast, and will not let it go: my heart shall not reproach me so long as I live. Job 27:6King James Version (KJV)

For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:6-10

The Spiritual Bully

They torment your life. They call you names. They ridicule, insult or belittle Bullyfamily situations, personal characteristics or life situations. Oftentimes, they threaten to take possessions, favors or other unearned privileges. They are called bullies.

A bully is a person who is habitually cruel, persecutes and intimidates weaker people. And they thrive on the element of fear. They can be selfish, prideful, power-seeking and deceitful. Their behaviors include verbal put downs of others, backstabbing or physical attacks.

I want to bring to your attention the spiritual Bully. He is the devil. He operates the same way as a human bully, however you cannot visually see this bully. He is spiritual. He works in your thoughts, through people and situations.

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:12King James Version (KJV)

As a bully, the devil searches for weaker or unlearned people in the Word who he can consume, belittle, ridicule or intimate. The devil battles in the mind, whispering inimical thoughts, lies and confusion about you and your situation. He calls you names, weak, ugly, unpopular. He magnifies situations to make you feel bad about yourself. For example, if you have a pimple on your face. He will say you’re ugly and unattractive. And will go to imply that you’ll never get a boy or girlfriend. This may be exaggerated, but this is how he operates.

The devil wants to possess your way of thinking and your behaviors for you to react to everyday issues with fear. And wants you to be selfish, stressed and depressed. If you listen to him you may begin to believe him.

  • There are ways to go up against a bully. My first suggestion is to pray. Prayer is the first line of defense again the devil. A prayer is an intimate talk to your heavenly Father. Let Him know what’s going on. Ask for His wisdom.
  • The Word of God is the best weapon to defeat bullies. There are scriptures you can say to yourself and others you can say out loud. Many reading this will not believe that mere words can do anything. But these are not simple words, they are God’s Word producing power. You must believe the Word is your weapon—a powerful weapon. Say the scripture in the mirror. Say them throughout the day. Keep saying them over and over until you believe.
  • Trust God. Believe God. Even though it feels like He is not working. He is working. Have faith. The key is to listen. God will instruct you. He may tell you to do certain things. You must follow his instructions for success.

When it comes to the spiritual bully, the solution sounds simple, but it will take work. You must resist, fight against, and remain strong against the devil. How? Through prayer, the Word, trust, belief and faith.

Avenues of Aspiration

Reflection Road

  1. Can you think of a time, when the devil whispered something unpleasant in your mind about yourself, or magnified an incident out of proportion? Did you listen? Did feel bad about yourself?
  2. When bleak or depressing thoughts come to mind the spiritual bully is working. Stop and begin to confess the Word of God out loud to combat the fiery darts of the spiritual bully.
  3. Begin to think about what you are thinking. Is God speaking to you of grace and peace? Or the devil with stresses and messes?

Devil’s Drive

The devil is aggressive and persistent. He will use forceful methods to fight you. He knows your weaknesses, and will use them to the best of his abilities. If your weakness is your appearance, he will constantly he remind you of your flaws. As far as persistent, he will continue to speak negativity in your mind. He will not stop. The combat method is not to stop his negative thoughts, but to fight them with the Word of God. If he starts on one issue and you win that battle, he will come back in in another area. Remember this is war. It will get easier once you can identify it is him and use the weapons of choice. The weapons will always be the Word of God and prayer.

World’s Way

The devil has convinced a majority of the world he does not exist. He is some imaginary person or illusion existing only in horror movies, or an image for Halloween costumes. He has deceived the world in thinking all tragedies and catastrophes are caused by God. And our loving Heavenly Father is the blame for all problems. He enjoys this illusion, because he can sit behind the scenes whispering evil in your mind.

Personal Pathway

The Spiritual Bully attacks all of us. In the morning, I have noticed the first attack before I barely open my eyes. Finances, job issues and family matters begin to churn. The first thing I say is a prayer to God. Praising His Holy name and thanking Him for all of His blessing small and large initiates the intimate conversation. I thank Him for His free gifts of love, righteousness, grace, peace and joy. I ask Him to bless me so I can be a blessing to others. Guidance and instruction of my days follows. Lastly, I declare I am the righteousness of God. I call this my morning eye opening prayer. Other prayers follow all through the day.

Pitch Perfect:Make Good Choices

choices 2Make good choices. This was a line taken out of the movie Pitch Perfect, when a young college student told her staggering, drunken friend at a frat party. It was funny when she said it. As I recall, the next morning her friend didn’t make a good choice that night.

Right now, you are young, bold and brazen. Afraid of nothing and acting out without shame. You have the yoke of youth. Being inquisitive and opinionated strengthens your shoulders. Having the desire to know and learn new things, all while expressing strong beliefs and judgments about everything. Many of you are going off to high school, college or getting your first apartment or staring your first job.

As a young adult, you may think:

  • My entire life is in front of me.
  • I have all the time in the world.
  • I am invincible.
  • I am smarter than my parents.
  • My parents don’t understand.
  • I will not make the mistakes of my parents.
  • My generation matters.
  • I’m in love.
  • No one is going to tell me what to do.
  • I got this.
  • It could never happen to me.
  • It’s time to party.

We were all young and can relate to some or all of these proclamations. As parents, guardians or your social leaders, we’ve seen, heard and experienced things that altered our lives. Some of the changes promising, while others discouraging. At one time, the above statements energized, but as life happened, the energy faded into reality.

  • My entire life is in front of me until you had unprotected sex with one night stands and now have AIDS.
  • I have all the time in the world until you were with the wrong crowd, they committed a crime and now you are in prison for being an accessory.
  • I am smarter than my parents until you grasped the concept they went to college, received degrees and brought home healthy salaries and you ditched college and you’re making minimum wage.
  • My parents don’t understand until you discovered they did understand that’s why they tried to warn you about life and you refused to listen.
  • I will not make the mistakes of my parents until you realized you made bigger or more life threatening mistakes because of your stubbornness.
  • My generation will matter until you recognized the devil has deceived your generation and robbed you all of your identity, nothing seems to matter.
  • I’m in love until you become pregnant and the father abandons you.
  • No one is going to tell me what to do until you found yourself in an abusive relationship and every move you make is dictated.
  • I got this until the drug experimentation leads into addiction. Now the addiction has you.
  • It could never happen to me until it did.
  • It’s time to party until you identified that’s all you do and years slipped away.
  • I am invincible until you learned life has defeated you for lacking the knowledge to win the battles of life.

Listen to your parents. If you don’t have parents, God is your Almighty Father, you are never without a parent. He will teach you through His Word.

Please listen to your parents, guardians or spiritual leaders, if you don’t have them, listen to God working through me.

20 My son, keep your father’s [God-given] commandment and forsake not the law of [God] your mother [taught you].

21 Bind them continually upon your heart and tie them about your neck.

22 When you go, they [the words of your parents’ God] shall lead you; when you sleep, they shall keep you; and when you waken, they shall talk with you. Proverbs 6:20-22Amplified Bible (AMP)

  • Do you have a plan in life? Or are you taking each day at a time? Is that really working for you?
  • Did you have a plan and some unforeseen event happened and your plan didn’t happen? Did you run away? Did you start a new plan? Did you ask God what plan He has for your life? Remember, your plan may differ from God’s plan for you. That may be why your plan is not working.
  • Do you listen to wise counsel and acknowledge they had a solution? Or does it appear your peers always seem to have a better solution. How is that working out?

Devil’s Drive

The devil deceived you into thinking it’s okay to:

    • Post on social media every sordid detail of your life; so predators can know you.
    • Give exact dates and times you will be at social functions so predators can find you.
    • Take selfies every 15 minutes so predator can know how you look.
    • Air out your dirty laundry so predators can empathize with you.
    •  Measure your importance and status by how many followers you have, so predators can befriend you.

Remember a predator is not always a sex offender luring young minds away from home. Predators are anyone who wants want to use, control or harm you. Stop listening to the devil. It’s not okay. All of the above are bad choices. Make a good choice to monitor what you post on social media.

World’s Way

Today, lusts and temptations loom everywhere. With the touch of a key on a tablet, laptop or phone you can do and see anything; and talk to anyone in the world. This convenience opens the doors to predators, schemes and crimes. Wrong choices have been made by trusting free gimmicks and identities have been stolen. Incorrect decisions. People follow scams where updated electronic are available at a fraction of the cost, failing to read the small print higher costs are connected to your credit card. Online chat room predators have lured many young girls to their destruction. The world is wicked. Make good choices.

Personal Pathway

A friend of my mine came to my house and asked me to go to nursing school with her. She said we could carpool and study together. She had a plan for childcare. My stubbornness caused me to look her in the eyes and say, “I don’t’ want to be a nurse. I don’t like taking medicine. How am I going to make others take medicine?” That was so stupid. I didn’t have a real life plan for my life. It took me about 2 years to discover nursing was a great career. I went to nursing school. But, I drove alone. I didn’t have a study partner. I didn’t have child care. God had a great plan for me. But, I wanted to do my plan. See where it got me? You never know when God has a plan for you. Listen!!!

Stop relying on your knowledge and trust God.

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5-6King James Version (KJV)

Get a foundation in God.

48 He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. Luke 6:48King James Version (KJV)

Don’t get a foundation in God.

49 But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great. Luke 6:49King James Version (KJV)

What Time Is It?

Time 1It’s time to take time. At some point, we have said, I don’t have time. This could have been legitimate. But in many cases, that statement has become an excuse or a way to blow off things we just don’t want to do. The reality is, you can make time for anything if you want to make time.

  • You make time for yourself for, “me time” to pamper, indulge, soothe or decompress.
  • You make time for entertainment by going to movies, parties, concerts, sport events or playing video games.
  • You make time to communicate with Facebook, Twitter, texting, emails or talking on the phone.
  • You make time for friends, to catch up, hang out or chill with.
  • If you have a new cell phone, video game or any other electronic toy, you will spend hours reading directions, googling questions, researching data and/or talking to people to ensure you have all the updated information needed to operate your device properly.

The things listed above, you will go out of your way to make the time, by rearranging schedules, cancelling other events or squeezing items into your routine. Why? Because it is all about you and what you what.

Do you schedule or rearrange time for God?

  • Some of you may not know to take time out for God. No one has told you to do this practice. Now, I am telling you. Take time out for God. Remember, God does not need your time. You need God’s time.
  • Others may know to spend time with God, but will allow themselves to get distracted. The adversary will make sure when you schedule time with God, the devil will make sure something will come to your mind that needs your immediate attention. A text or email of urgent importance will come through. Anything to block you time with your Father.
  • Yet, there are others who take the time, but the time is rushed. If the biblical passage they’re reading takes a little longer than expected or requires more time. They will say, I don’t have time, it’s too long or I’ll read it later. This needs to be shorter. Again, you’re making it about you and what you want.

You may think God is a fly by the way God. Mumble a few words to Him. Glance over His Word. Skim though a Daily Devotion or a Biblical scripture. You praise yourself, brag to others and pat yourself on the back, thinking your obligation to God has been fulfilled. If anyone asked you in detail what you read, could you actually tell them? Or, do you apply the message you read in your daily life?

It’s mind-boggling, when you get into a debacle, desperately needing something, or someone has harmed you, the abundant amount of time allocated to God. You are praying feverishly, reading the Bible passionately and searching for His reply diligently. After the crises is abated. You go back to making all about you and not about Him.

God is your Friend, your Father, your Protector of your foes, your Provider and your Comforter. Don’t get it twisted. God wants to be a part of your life; however He doesn’t need you. You need Him.

Avenues of Awareness

Reflection Road

  • Have you ever wanted to be close to someone or spend time with them, but they would not give you the time of day? Do you think of ways to get closer to them? Can you apply this concept to getting a close relationship with God?
  • In the beginning, schedule time with God like any other important appointment that will have an impact on your life. Begin with mini sessions. Allow the discussions to be throughout the day.
Set your alarm clock 15 minutes early schedule.
1.Talk with God while brushing your teeth.
    2.Take a walk after lunch.
3.Talk to him during your ride to school or work.
4.Talk to him while your or cooking or cleaning.
The key is to communicate with Him throughout the day, every day.

Devil’s Drive

Remember, the devil is a thief, coming to kill, steal and destroy. He will steal your time from God or any other positive thing, if you allow him. You must have the same attitude, if someone stole your money, your girl or boyfriend or your car. Demand to get it back. Don’t’ let the devil steal your time. Treat him like a thief. Take your time with God back!

World’s Way

Today, it is societal way to stay busy. If you don’t have an overwhelming schedule, you’re considered as being lazy. It’s okay to be busy if you are focusing on a goal. The key is to balance your schedule with God, school, work and play. If you keep God first, He will keep you first in all other matters, school, work and play.

Personal Pathway

I am all about balance and budgets. My daily routines comprises of spending time with God with prayer and studying His Word. I do this first thing in the morning. That works for me. Then, there is time for work and then there is a decompression time (play time). God, school (studying His Word) work, all balanced.

A budget is a plan used to decide the amount of something (money, time, energy) that can be allocated or how it should be spent. Daily, I budget the amount of time spent on God, school, work and play. If I spend too much time on one item, another item will not receive the attention needed. If I get off on balance or budget, my day seems out of whack. If continued my life is out of whack.

Balance your life and get on a budget.

What is the Intimate Conversation

What

What is prayer? The response may differ according to the person, their background, culture or race. Oftentimes, prayers have become a laundry list of people to bless; what is needed or what is desired with an abundant amount of time spent asking for forgiveness. Prayer time has been designated to cry, moan and complain to God. Or pepper God with who, what and why questions about present, past, future or worldly things.

Now it’s time to renew the way prayer is conducted. Prayer is the most important act in the relationship with God. Let’s define prayer and discuss the: what, who, why, when and where.

What and who-Prayer is an intimate conversation with your heavenly Father. Intimate means to have a very close private relationship. God is your Almighty Father; prayers should always be with reverence (honor and respect).

Why-God wants to have a special bond with His children. Our Father wants to be involved in all areas of our lives. We should want that connection as well. He is our Protector, Comforter and Advisor, just to name a few. Most do not realize He is our Friend. We talk and confide in our friends every day. Prayer, a discussion, talk or conversation with God is the beginning to establishing a warm and loving connection.

When- Anytime. Prayer should not be only a nightly ritual at your bedside, with hands clasped and eyes closed. Think of someone you are very close, a spouse, a best friend, etc. Do you only communicate with them nightly for maybe 5 minutes? No! There are exceptions, but generally you speak to them for extended amounts of time or several times throughout the day. Prayers to God should be multiple times throughout the day.

Where-Anywhere! When you’re in the car; on the bus; at work; at school, lunchtime, break times, when things are good; when things are bad; or when guidance or direction is needed.

But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word. Acts 6:4King James Version (KJV)

Avenues of Awareness

Reflection Road

  • Do you feel like it’s necessary to pray? If you don’t, how’s your life going? Do you think it could improve? Talk to God about it. Pray.
  • If you feel there is no time to pray, begin by creating small blocks of time to pray. Start off with maybe 5 minutes, then increase a little at a time. Prayer time doesn’t need to be a formal time. Just a time put aside to talk to our Father.

Devil’s Drive

Satan’s greatest attraction is distraction. The devil uses any diversion to prevent you from praying. He does not want you to establish a bond with God. Whenever you begin to pray, have you noticed, the phone may ring, a text may come, a friend may stop by, or you become sleepy, or you will think of a matter that needs your immediate attention. Don’t let him divert you away from your talk with God.

World’s Way

In certain parts of the world to pray to God is illegal and persecution is executed. In the United States, prayer it banned in most schools. If you live in the United States take advantage of praying and do it. In the near future, you may not have the opportunity.

Personal Pathway

God is my best Friend and I let Him know everything that is going on in my life. I talk to Him all day long. When I’m at home if someone stood outside my door they would think I’m talking to someone in the house. At work, I sometime mumble things to him. This is in addition to my morning prayers. I talk to Him all day.
